Teaching tips:
Allow children to handle and explore 2-D shapes. Put a selection on their tables and they could try sorting them in different ways. Ask children what rule they have used for sorting them.
Stem sentence: ‘I have sorted them by ____.’
Follow this activity with ‘2-D shapes - recall’ to check retention of the shape names or let the children have fun playing with and exploring 2-D shapes using ‘Tangranimals’ or ‘Shape shuffle’.
