Quadrilaterals
Click and drag the shapes to the correct boxes depending on what type of quadrilateral they are. When you are finished, use the ‘Mark’ button to see if you are right. Use the ‘Clues’ button to help.
Discussion points
- What are the properties of quadrilaterals?
- Are any of these shapes symmetrical? How do you know?
- Why is a square a type of rectangle?
Teaching tips:
Check children’s understanding of quadrilaterals by giving them straws of varying lengths and asking them to make quadrilaterals. Check if they have only used four straws at a time and that they have made shapes which are closed. Can they describe their shapes?
Stem sentence: ‘My shape has __ parallel sides and __ equal/unequal sides.’
Model drawing a quadrilateral with errors such as drawing five lines, drawing a curved side or not fully closing the sides. See if children can identify the mistake(s).
Use with the ‘Regular and irregular polygons’ activity to consolidate learning on polygons and quadrilaterals.
