P.E. performance evaluation
Read the guidance and then fill out the template.
Discussion points
- How can we measure the success of sports performances aside from just winning and losing?
- What personality traits make a good sportsperson?
- Is progress always linear?
- Do you have any sports role models? What traits do they have that you admire?
Teaching tips:
Use these performance evaluation templates to increase intrinsic motivation and support children to take responsibility for their own progress in P.E.
Children can complete their template at the end of a P.E. lesson to reflect on their performance and set goals for the following lesson. The comparison template is ideal for comparing performances from the beginning and the end of a unit or half-term of P.E. lessons.
When completing the template, encourage children to use the performance indicators listed in the guidance to inform their evaluation. Encourage children to consider how they performed both physically (e.g. their strength and agility) as well as mentally (e.g. their decision-making and composure).
Remind children that not every performance indicator will be relevant to their given sport. Focusing on just 2 or 3 indicators at a time will allow children to create detailed evaluations that will help to reveal their individual targets for improvement.
