Face trace
Use your webcam to take a photo of yourself or use one of the photos provided.
Using the brush tool, carefully trace around the main shapes of your face - head, ears, neck. Make sure you are creating closed shapes. You can also add simple lines and dots for eyebrow, eyes, nose and mouth.
Use the paint bucket to flood fill the shapes you have created. Finally, add a nice bright colour for your background.
Discussion points
- Which shapes could you remove to make it simpler?
- Bold lines are part of the style!
- Does it look like you?
Teaching tips:
Get the children to watch the guidance video. Explain that, simple is effective and it is possible to create a good likeness without lots of detail.
Encourage pupils to:
- Draw slowly
- Zoom in if needed
- Join their lines carefully
If flood fill doesn’t work:
- Ask: “Is your shape fully closed?”
- Suggest turning the photo transparency up and down while checking lines.
If the webcam option is not available, go to Account settings at the top of the Welcome screen to look at your privacy settings. Uncheck the option to hide all import buttons.
