Create a minibeast
Draw a picture of a minibeast. Experiment with different colours and textures. Add wings, legs, antennae and eyes!
Discussion points
- What does your minibeast like to eat?
- Where does it live?
- Does it have any special features?
- Can it fly?
Teaching tips:
Before children design their own minibeast, why not go out on a minibeast hunt and use magnifying glasses to see these creatures up close. Encourage children to use language to describe their minibeast in detail, using full sentences.
This would be a good opportunity to introduce the word ‘habitat’ as a place suited to the survival of the minibeasts.
Children might like to ‘Colour a bug’ and look at symmetry at the same time, or label ‘Parts of an insect’ to look closely at their defining features.
