Chinese New Year fireworks
The date of Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, changes from year to year. In 2022, it will be celebrated on 1st February. In 2023, it will be on 22nd January.
The celebrations for Chinese New Year last for 15 days. Fireworks welcome in the new year and frighten evil away. People wear red to scare off evil spirits and because it is a lucky colour. Children are given money in red envelopes and adults exchange gifts. The celebrations end with a lantern festival and a dragon dance or parade.
