Discussion points
- Vincent Van Gogh (pronounced “Van Goff”) was a very famous Post-Impressionist painter and one of the lead artists of the Post-Impressionism movement. Even though his paintings are known all over the world, he wasn’t rich or famous in his lifetime.
- He was Dutch and lived between 1853 and 1890.
- The Post-Impressionists took the techniques of Impressionism and took it further. They kept the visible brush marks but didn’t use realistic colours or try to capture the effects of light. In addition, Van Gogh used bold brush to try and express his emotions.
- Van Gogh’s style influenced painters in the later movement called Expressionism.
