Types of triangle
Look closely at the triangles and drag them to the correct boxes depending on what type of triangle they are. When you are finished, use the ‘Mark’ button to see if you are right. Use the ‘Clues’ button to help.
Discussion points
- What do you notice about the triangles?
- What is the same? What is different?
- Can you name any everyday objects which are triangular?
Teaching tips:
Before completing this activity, let children explore a selection of 2-D triangles. Ask children what they notice and see if they can describe and sort the triangles using familiar mathematical language (sides, vertices, vertex).
Stem sentences:
‘This triangle has ____,’
‘I have sorted the triangles by _____.’
Possible misconception: there is no such thing as an ‘upside down’ triangle: ensure children understand that it is a triangle in a different orientation.
