Icelandic ash cloud
The Icelandic ash cloud was caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland called Eyjafjallajökull in 2010.
The volcano spewed out millions of tonnes of volcanic ash which blew over many countries causing chaos for airports.
Use the picture and text tools to describe the Icelandic ash cloud or write a weather report on how it affected air travel and the weather.
Discussion points
- It was dangerous for aeroplanes to fly in the ash cloud because it could cause the engines to fail.
- Eyjafjallajökull is pronounced “ay-ar-f-yer-cla-yer-cukh”, but is also known by the easier name of 'E15'!
