Cat's spelling splosh
This version of the game focuses on words that contain a basic grapheme that has an alternative pronunciation.
Listen to the word from the speaker then spell it using the puddles. Use the buttons at the bottom to switch the puddle 'keyboard' between QWERTY and ABCDE.
Where two words sound the same but are spelt differently (homophones) an easel appears with a picture to show which one it is.
Use the 'Alternative phoneme settings' button to choose which GPCs to focus on.
Teaching tips:
Children might like to practise writing the word on whiteboards first and comparing with a partner before setting Cat off.
For further activities around alternative phonemes, try ‘DDigging for gold’.
